Introducing Mr. Essential
Bradford, NH
Your New Project Manager
You might think Mr. Essential has been around forever, but no—he officially stepped into the spotlight during the coronavirus outbreak, when the Lumber Barn was deemed an “essential business.” While the world was busy figuring out how to bake sourdough and hoarding toilet paper, the Lumber Barn stayed open, meeting the sudden surge in demand for lumber, supplies, and everyday essentials.
Of course, the Lumber Barn had been a fixture in the community for quite some time. Since 1984, the store had been helping both DIYers and professionals alike. The pandemic, however, marked a major milestone: Doug Webb took the reins as the sole owner of this family-run business. With Doug at the helm, the stage was set for the most logical next move: the creation of a company mascot.
Enter Mr. Essential: a cartoonish yet undeniably charming mascot who, not surprisingly, bears a striking resemblance to Doug himself. After all, what better way to say, “We’ve got everything you need,” than by creating a cartoon version of yourself and naming him Mr. Essential?
It wasn’t long before this stylized, smiley character became the face of the Lumber Barn, starring in print ads and store displays, where his many hobbies—from hunting and fishing to golf and skiing—are showcased. But he’s not just about good looks and charm (though he has plenty of both). He’s a reflection of what the Lumber Barn stands for: quality materials, expert advice, and a commitment to helping everyone get the job done right the first time. With a blend of expertise, humor, and just the right amount of self-deprecation, he’s the guy to turn to for advice about your next project—or a good chuckle.
So, whether you’re framing out a multi-unit building or wrestling with crown molding for your home, Mr. Essential is there for you. Because in the world of construction, it’s not just about having the right tools—it’s about having a great company to do business with.
